Before my daughter Lottie was born in January I had a really good morning routine, but as soon as she was born, my life became a little bit hectic… if you know what I mean
My morning routine and exercise went out the window as I focused on my family…

Getting Up At 6am With a Passion For Life!
Last month I set back up my morning routine to integrate as many IMPORTANT things back into my life... When you prioritize the things that matter MOST to you and you do them first thing in the morning, you get them done and nothing comes in the way of them.
Work on yourself first, then you can help other people later… if you don't feed your mind and body with the right ingredients, then you will be poor minded and have ill health..
I LOVE getting up at 6am now… I set the alarm and JUMP out of bed.
Here's My Morning Routine
- 6am: Alarm Goes Off & I Get Up
- Get dressed
- Go down stairs and drink a pint of fresh water
- Eat an apple and banana
- Go for a 30 minute walk or run
- As I'm walking/running I listen to my purpose, my vision & why, mission, affirmations, goals, my why and my pains…
- Have a shower
Here's My Morning Family Routine
- 7am I wake up Lottie
- Get her changed
- Feed her with bottled milk
- Read with Lottie for 15-20 minutes
- Lottie watches her learning DVD and I do the chores/ housework/ washing up
- Eat my breakfast and feed Lottie her main breakfast
- Spend a little time with Lottie and Pippa until 8.30am when I go to my office to work…
What Is The Point Of My Morning Routine
- I get my daily exercise (walk/run)
- I can do some deep breathing exercises which helps with my public speaking
- I feed my mind with positive information
- I eat healthy fruit first thing in the morning
- I drink a pint of water which rehydrates me from my nights sleep (Water is the fuel of life and a huge percentage of our body is made up of water)
- I listen to and read my purpose/vision/mission/affirmations/goals etc which helps keep my life and business on track (I visualize and think of them as I'm doing my exercise in the morning
- I get to have a shower to wake me up fully and prepare myself for my day ahead
It's perfect for me in every way!
I Don't Have Time
Several months ago, I was thinking… how can I fit exercise back into my life? I know there is ALWAYS a way to do anything!
Now I'm able to fit it in and have ALL those other benefits in my life, just by getting up 1 hour earlier than before. Imagine doing a morning routine like that for many years… how fit, focused and healthy would you become?
Feed your mind with positive information and keep track of your goals and dreams daily!
I'd love to hear your routines, so please leave a comment at the bottom of the post.
Committed To Your Success,
Gavin Mountford
Thanks for sharing that. I need to look at my routine. I need to get the exercise worked in but I already get up at 5:30 am. My problem is that I take on too many projects. I think if I set priorities that may help. Exercise should be a priority.
Pleasure Melodie, thank you for commenting! Good to hear from you… 5.30 am sounds very early, even for me getting up at 6am. Taking on too many problems is an easy thing to do… we can only juggle so many balls before we start to drop some, so best to put down the ones that aren't important and don't contribute to your long term goals and focus on the ones that do.
Hi Gavin,
Thanks for sharing your schedule. I cannot help but seeing cute Little Lottie's face! I really believe that exercise is the number one factor that will determine your success. Too many people do not take the time to exercise and it shows not only in obesity but in mental failures.
I participated in a program called The Ultimate Game of Life. I established an exercise routine that made all the difference in everything I did on a daily basis professionally and personally. I started riding my bicycle and walking my puppy for 30 minutes a day. I also added daily sit-ups. It is a great help physically and mentally. Once the habit is established, it becomes a natural part of the day.
I would suggest to anyone, especially marketers stuck behind a computer monitor to re-evaluate your daily routine and fit in a schedule. It can be done by starting at 6 a.m. or eliminating useless activities that you may be engaged with such as 1 or 2 television sitcoms!

The Ultimate Game of Life sounds very interesting, and you are definitely right about exercise! I stopped exercising for 6 months when Lottie was born due to 'a lack of time', lol… says the time saver
It's actually a change of focus rather than a lack of time…
Definitely get out from behind the computer and get running
Great routine Gavin. I would have to say the most important aspects of that would be eating right and exercising! To truly be a superstar in this industry or any industry for that matter, you MUST be the FULL PACKAGE! Brains, looks, clarity of thought and much more all come into play when building a 6 or 7 figure business
Thanks Matthew, great to see you back in comment land… how have you been? What are you up to at the moment?
Very organized schedule, and I'd expect nothing less from you Gavin. My schedule … well, I'll just share the morning. I'm an early riser. In fact 6am is like sleeping in for me. I'm normally up at the latest by 4am – sometimes a little earlier. I never use an alarm, I've just always been that way – no matter what time zone I happen to be in. My routine is to start the coffee and take my dog Lucy out to survey her "kingdom" and enjoy the stars on our deck … then I scan half a dozen online news feeds over coffee, check email and work until it's light outside – at which point I'm out for a long walk and back for whatever I've scheduled for the day. Obviously, life is much less complicated with no children.
Hehe… thank you for sharing your routine, sounds lovely in the morning with your Lucy, looking at the stars!
Gavin, your routine sounds like a great way to start the day. I once heard John Maxwell say: “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine”.
Small changes really do add up. I have so many things that I love to do in the morning that I would need to train my body to go to bed at 8:00 pm to get up early enough. For me, simplification is key so I focus on prayer, worship, exercise, water, breakfast smoothie and meditation, and setting intentions for that day.
Thanks Rachel, I've got one of John Maxwell's books, and I can't remember which one it is… all I know is that it was a fantastic book! Your morning routine sounds excellent also! Congrats for getting it in place
Hi Gavin,
Love your routine! I love that you can have time for everything you need to do and still be with your family.
As for me, I seem to switch routines around often. After your training I've started taking closer notice of some routines I hope to set in concrete (well, maybe wet concrete). One thing I've changed recently was my own morning routine. I get up at 6 a.m. also, but I prefer not to set an alarm, and if I've been up late the night before, I sleep past 6. So my worship time was getting shortchanged quite a bit. But now, I get up and work until 7-ish, then get breakfast, go for my walk (prayer time and Hebrew vocabulary time), then come back, shower, and have worship. Works so much better for me this way — for now. If I shortchange work time because I was working late the night before, it really doesn't matter!
Think I'm getting the idea of this — routines can change, but the point is to be intentional about thinking about them, so they can really work for me.
Thank you for sharing Sherry! Really glad you are integrating routines into your life… they are key! I'm going to be working on my evening routine shortly, to make sure I practice gratitude and celebrating my achievements for the day!
