‘How To Get Things Done Fast Online’ 30 Min Interview With Gavin Mountford!

Gavin,

Thank you, thank you and THANK YOU.

As the minutes click away and I reflect on our conversation yesterday, I become more grateful.  For me it was an essential experience for my personal development.  I hope it was rewarding for you as well.

The reminders of effective time management principles and practices  has me re-examining the my current practices.

The most important key revealed yesterday was the idea of laser focused effort for protected blocks of time.  My effectiveness is constantly diluted by distraction….
This idea alone changed my activities yesterday. I feel rejuvenated. Thanks to you
!

Doesn’t it feels GREAT when someone sends you an email like this! It makes your journey & what you do so much more worthwhile!

I receive a LOT of fantastic emails like this now, although, it wasn’t always like this…

When I first came online to learn about attraction marketing and building my networking marketing business, I quickly found how easy it was to get out of my depth. (I felt like I was in the deep end of the swimming pool unable to swim and without any arm bands to save me.)

I felt useless, frustrated and upset that for some reason, and with ALL my knowledge and expertise, I still couldn’t make it work!

Somehow I’d managed to join several network marketing companies and buy far TOO MANY information products. Of course this didn’t include my day job, family, hobbies, and the need to set up a blog, use social media, do video’s and all of the other things you need to become successful in this industry.

I guess you could say, I was OVERWHELMED.

So if you’ve ever felt like this before, then I know EXACTLY how you feel. I’ve been there before and I can honestly say… it’s not a nice feeling.

I felt out of control and overloaded with NO HOPE of getting out of that damn job I hated so much!

Well…. fortunately, several years later it all changed around. I HAD FAITH and persistence!

I plodded on, bit by bit, step by step. Learning as much as I could about productivity, time management and HOW to get EVERYTHING that was important to me done, finished and complete in the LITTLE amount of time I had each day :-)

My life became easier and I felt rejuvenated, relaxed and at peace with myself… Things were now beginning to flow and I was happy.

Since those days of quiet desperation, I feel I’ve come a LONG way and was interviewed a few days ago by a fantastic guy on Blog Talk Radio. His goes by the name of “Teach Jim” from the “Teach Jim Show

The tips and tricks I reveal in this ‘VERY POWERFUL’ 30 minute interview have been used by HUNDREDS of my downline, my students and my personal friends and coaching clients.

I talk about the EXACT SAME problems I had all those years ago and how I overcame them.

We discussed:

  • How to break your day up to get MUCH more done and 10x’s better results
  • How to use ‘Project blocks‘ for LASER POWERED FOCUS…
  • How I Focus on the 20% of tasks to ACHIEVE 80% of my results!
  • How to incorporate LEARNING into your daily schedule to ensure you are always GROWING, to turn yourself into a leader.
  • My DMO, or (daily method of operation) & how if you don’t have one, you are DOOMED to fail…
  • Plus much, much more…

There are many more insights we discuss on this call, and HONESTLY it’s one of those DO NOT MISS moments.

BUT, if you feel you don’t have time to listen right now, then just put it on in the background and use what I call NET time! (It stands for No Extra Time).

    Gavin,
Again, you are sharing some very timely tips on balancing your time against what works. It’s so great of you to share these so we don’t have to repeat these same mistakes. You are saving us headaches and frustrations.
    Thanks,
    Val :)

I agree Val, it’s all about sharing experiences with others to help them so they don’t have to go through the same mistakes.

Sometimes we have to make those mistakes ourselves to REALLY learn… but it definitely helps to be in a tribe or group of people that support each other.

    Thanks
    Gavin

Thanks Gavin I particularly enjoyed your quote “I plodded on, bit by bit, step by step. Learning as much as I could about productivity, time management and HOW to get EVERYTHING that was important to me done, finished and complete in the LITTLE amount of time I had each day” That’s what it’s all about just keep going and don’t quit.

    Thanks again,

    Michael

    Gavin Mountford Reply:

Hey Michael, yes…. bit by bit, step by step. I used to be very impatient, but over the last few years I’ve realised that it is a journey and gradually learning, implementing and tweaking.

I think we are always on a journey and we never actually ‘get there’ like some people think, so it’s all about enjoying that journey.

    Thanks again,
    Gavin

    Hey Gavin,

    Great job on the interview!

I believe many people feel as you did when first jumping online. It can be very overwhelming starting out and if you don’t have a concise plan on how to “get things done” it can be a long frustrating process.

I just read a report about similar points from Ryan Dunn about getting “unstuck” in network marketing.

Thanks for the outline on how to manage time and accomplish projects!

I look forward to learning more from you and connecting further!

    In Success,
    Howie Perks

    Gavin Mountford Reply:

    Hi Howie,

Overwhelm is HUGE online. There is SO much for people to learn and do…. and the information is so easily available. People snack on little bits of info and don’t really finish things.

They are left with LOTS of unfinished projects, tasks and information training and then feel unsatisfied so they go and do it all again.

All the while, they are creating ‘open loops’ in their mind which are repeated time and time again causing the stress and overwhelm.

Thanks for stopping by and for commenting,
    Gavin

    Hi Gavin:

Thanks for sharing this interview. I am always interested in ways to be more efficient and focused. I find that I have to break my project management into 1 our blocks.

I have learned so much from “Getting Things Done” and “7 Habits of HIghly Effective People”. I also have Nozbe and really like it.

I’m going to have to go back and listen again, because there was so much packed in this half-hour.

    Live with passion and purpose,
    Vanessa

    Gavin Mountford Reply:

    hi Vanessa,

Yes GTD is a fantastic book. I’ve also read the 2nd book from David Allen which fills in any gaps from the first and answers a lot of questions.

Live with Passion and Purpose… I love that quote! Similar to Tony Robbins, Live with Passion. Very Powerful :-)

How are you finding Nozbe? I’d be interested in your workflow/management?

    Thanks for stopping by,

    Hey Gavin,

Great interview man. BlogTalkRadio is one heck of an awesome program and free service to get massive exposure out there and really just host your own radio show online.

And second of all, time management is by far one of the most important things you could focus your attention on. Time is your most valuable asset on this planet, it is meant to be leveraged…

    [Reply]

    Gavin Mountford Reply:

Thanks Matthew, I agree BTR is a great Radio station and very good for exposure.

I’d like to be interviewed more often so I need to contact a few of the owners of the stations.

    Thanks,
    Gavin

Time management is a hard skill to gain and laser sharp focus is hard to come by. Clarity and lack of focus are my biggest issues but I have definitely made some breakthroughs. Setting goals and having an action plan for the day are a must for me. This is great information. Thanks so much for sharing it.

    [Reply]

    Gavin Mountford Reply:

Hi Nicole, yes clarify and lack of focus… those are the big picture items which ideally need to be worked on before the projects and tasks.

Without a clear picture you might find that 2 years down the line, you’ve put a LOT of time and effort into building up something only to find out that you were working on the wrong things all along.

Climbing the wrong ladder to success.

If you’d like to discuss any of this, please let me know and I’ll see if I can help you.

    Thanks
    Gavin

    Gavin,
I’ve only listened to the first half of the interview, but already – WOW! Been hearing about “project blocks” for awhile, but makes sense, so I’m ready to try it out. And the 80/20 rule, always makes sense. Can’t wait to listen to second half.
    Thanks so much,
    Adam

    [Reply]

    Gavin Mountford Reply:

Excellent Adam, hope you got to the 2nd half, but I know what it’s like trying to fit everything in :-)

The project blocks are very powerful and they help people get the important things done.

    Thanks for the comment,
    Gavin

Hey Maggie, I hope you are well! Haven’t connected for a while but good to hear from you.

Yes, being organized works well for some people but not for others. Many people just like to go with the flow and others like to plan.

Whatever suits the individual and as long as they don’t get stressed and overwhelmed.

    Hi Gavin,

I appreciate your sharing this with us. I have been exposed to those project management blocks of time and they work very well! Time management is critical for anyone, but as you pointed out, when we work from home, it is even more crucial that we structure our time well, and effectively to get the most bang for our buck!

I liked the interview so well that I downloaded it into itunes to listen to again. You rock!

    [Reply]

    Gavin Mountford Reply:

Thanks Debbie, yeah, project blocks are powerful and chunks of time. Especially when working from home.

Things are definitely going to change for me with a new baby on it’s way, so I’ll have to restructure my day to make sure I have time for everything :-)

I agree with some of the other commentors, this 30 minute interview needs to be listened to more than once!
    Thank you for sharing,

    Hello, Gavin:

As I think about my comment, it’s difficult because everyone else has pointed out things that they experienced or received, and I say, “Ditto!” You always provide insight, inspiration, and support.

What was encouraging about the interview is that wherever we are at in our business, you truly understand because you have been where we are as well! I really get frustrated with marketers that present themselves as if they’ve never been challenged, never been disorganized, or never been on a very tight budget. You give us the real deal! You gave us an inside look at your day, and that’s very valuable to me and anyone else that listens to the interview!

Thank you for being a real leader, coach, and mentor, Gavin!

    Deborah

If you’d like a tool for managing your time and projects, you can use this web-application inspired by David Allen’s GTD:

    Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage and prioritize your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
Comes with a mobile version too, and with an Android app.

Gavin, that was great to hear how you manage your time and workload so efficiently and how you got to that point. I like the idea of mini projects and mini time slots. And you gave me an excellent idea of what to do with all the ideas that buzz around in my brain all the time. So far they often get scribbled down only to be buried in a mound of scraps of all sizes. I take your advice gladly… thank you for sharing it.
