Day 3 – My Personal 90 Day Challenge

I've been doing a lot of thinking about myself and my life recently and I've been doing a lot of life coaching/ NLP style exercises to understand more about myself, who I am, where I'm going in my life and what I want to achieve over the next few years.

Today I wrote out a list of 10 activities or things I've done in my life which I've been successful at. They may not seem very exciting to others, but at the time, to me, they were challenges and I overcame them. Some are successes and others are just things I do well at.

  1. I've got a successful online business
  2. I'm in a loving relationship
  3. Purchased a house and moved in
  4. I quit my day job
  5. Set up a guitar teaching business
  6. I've developed a great network of friends
  7. I'm good at building online relationships
  8. I learned webdesign
  9. I was a manager in a nightclub
  10. Completing a 10k run for cancer research

The above list has things from different areas of my life. From that list, I then worked out what skills and competencies I needed to achieve each of the above.

Having a Successful Business

  • Good time management skills
  • Having the ability to plan
  • Build up win win relationships
  • Work out and maintain my finances and accounts
  • Be driven and motivated to work for myself
  • Be able to prioritize
  • Have good business sense
  • Set up and develop websites
  • Develop and write good content
  • Touch Typing
  • Creative ability and have lots of ideas
  • Ability to focus

Being in a loving relationship

  • Be giving
  • Able to listen
  • Loving and helpful
  • Supportive
  • Ability to step into the other person's world
  • Able to give and take
  • Patient and supportive
  • Ability to give and take advice

Completing a 10k run for cancer research

  • Determination
  • Fitness
  • Desire
  • A reason
  • Motivation
  • Drive
  • Fund raising

I'm sure there are many more qualities and competencies that come from the above topics and as I said, there are another 8 things I wrote down, each with unique competencies. Once I'd finished all ten areas, I'd got over 100 qualities and competencies in my list!

This kind of exercise can really help bring the positive aspects of your personality to the forefront of your mind, rather than focusing on the negatives all the time.

In order to achieve and succeed at something in your life, you needed certain skills and qualities to get to where you are in your life now.

Go through this exercise yourself, work out successes and things you have achieved in your life and then write down the qualities and competencies you needed to succeed at each individual item. You'll be amazed at all the things you write down.
